Introduction to the Blog

Since the launch of QSN, my colleagues on the mentorship subcommittee and I have been scheming some method by which we can provide resources on how to navigate the “soft skills” of being a good mentor and mentee in some permanent format. This blog is our first attempt at it. The goal is to publish a blog post every quarter or so written by different quantitative scientists—and perhaps other folks—about mentorship techniques, thoughts, musings, experiences, stories, and resources. While we all have numerous opportunities to attend webinars or other talks, it is not very common to have a permanent product to remind us of what we learned in that talk. This blog is not intended to replace a good didactic or interactive session on mentorship, but to spark a few new ideas you may not have previously considered. In this inaugural post, I’ve thought it fitting to write about being a mentor while still being in a junior position. Your mileage may vary, but I think this is a topic with which most of us can resonate.
