Educational and Mentoring Webinar: Navigating How to Get a Job

There will be a panel discussion including two statisticians who recently navigated the hiring process and a statistical professional who coaches early career statisticians in job searches and interviewing. There will be insights and strategies for quantitative staff at all career stages, and this discussion will include time for questions from attendees.

Speaker Bios

With over 12 years of experience as a statistical professional in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, Dishan Liu, MS, has supported clinical trials from Phase I to IV, specializing in oncology and hematology. In recent years, she has also begun coaching new graduates and early-career professionals, leveraging industry insight to guide them through job searches, interviews, and career transitions.

Ben Brewer, PhD, was recently hired (Sep. 2024) as a Research Scientist for the Center of Biostatistics and Health Data Science. Prior to that, he graduated from the Kansas University Medical Center with his PhD (Jul. 2024), where his research focused on ROC-based methods for cutoff estimation under non-standard ordering settings. He has approximately seven years of experience working as a collaborative biostatistician.

Emmanuel Nartey, PhD, is a collaborative biostatistician with experience supporting clinical and public health research. He currently serves as a research scientist at Virginia Tech’s Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science, which he joined in May 2024 following the completion of his PhD in Statistics from Central Michigan University.
